Preserving the story of the Coronation
The Coronation Wreck Project brings together divers, researchers, archaeologists and volunteers to explore, record and protect one of England’s most significant historic wreck sites.
Through research, underwater survey and public engagement, the project helps ensure the story of the Coronation continues to be understood and shared for future generations.
OUR PURPOSE

The wreck of the Coronation is more than an archaeological site. It is the final resting place of a Royal Navy warship, a remarkable underwater landscape and an important part of Britain’s maritime heritage.
The project exists to help understand and protect that heritage. Our work includes documenting the wreck site, supporting responsible access for divers, recording new discoveries and bringing together information gathered over many years.

PROTECTED HERITAGE
One of Britain’s protected historic wrecks
The Coronation was among the first wreck sites to receive protection under the Protection of Wrecks Act 1973.
The site is managed under licence with the support of Historic England. Divers are welcome to experience the wreck, but permission is required and nothing — archaeological material or marine life — may be removed or disturbed.
Our role is to help balance access, research and conservation so the site can continue to be explored responsibly.
